Will we ever be equals?

So today Whit and I went walking around Wicker Park in Chicago, IL. We were stopped by a man with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The HRC is the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) political action committee in the United States. It claims over 750,000 members and supporters. "HRC envisions an America where gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people are ensured equality and embraced as full members of the American family at home, at work, and in every community." For as little as 50 cents a day you can help us get closer to equality.

I just don't understand why it is such a big deal. We aren't hurting anyone, are we? So many people are hiding behind they're ways and refuse to see that the world is changing. Being gay is not a phase nor is it a choice. I didn't wake up one day and decide "you know what? I think I'm going to be gay to piss off the world!" Quite frankly, somedays I wish I wasn't... It would be so much easier to be straight.
