the L word

So yesterday my girlfriend and i decided we were going to have a movie day. We rented Sunshine Cleaners with Amy Adams, and the first two discs of The L Word Season One. Sunshine Cleaners was a pretty decent movie. Rose (Amy Adams) and her sister, Norah (Emily Blunt), cleaned up crime scenes to raise up enough money to send Rose's son to a private school. I'm kind of biased because I'm definitely a fan of Amy Adams, but regardless it was still a good movie.

I had heard a LOT about The L Word. It is definitely an extremely controversial show. I think that each of us can probably somehow relate with at least one of the characters. Dana, one of the main characters, is a professional tennis player who is afraid to come out. When I was younger, I was terrified of what people would think of me when I decided to come out. In middle school, everyone knew me and I got along with pretty much everyone. I was far from shy and I was very confident. Living in the "bible belt," people weren't exactly open to the idea of lesbians or gay men. My parents were in denial for a long time. Many of my friends suddenly weren't my friends anymore, and the friends who stayed around started to treat me differently. It got easier as I got older, but I never got used to some of the things that came along with being gay. Things like being called a dike, or being judged at work kill me.

shopping...

I have only met a few people who did not enjoy shopping. I am definitely not one of the few who doesn't like it. I love to shop. I have officially decided that I despise shopping for khakis. They never fit right, they aren't as comfortable as jeans, and quite frankly I don't like the way they look. I have also decided that stores think women have no curves at all. Apparently we are all twigs. If you aren't a size 4 or lack curves you are going to have a hard time looking for khakis. So do everyone a favor and shop for shoes! They always fit.

Lab Corps

How many of you have had to take a urine sample drug test? When I was in high school, my dad was convinced that I was a pothead. He was one of those people that was so convinced that he ordered an at home drug kit. So after a while you'd think that I'd gotten over my fears of drug tests. WRONG! One of the requirements for my new job was to have a drug test before I could start. Piece of cake, right? As if I wasn't already nervous enough about it for some reason, it took me forever to find the place. I called the place and they had a recording that said "Thank you for choosing Lab Corps. We are located on 2334A W Higgins Rd, in Hoffman Estates." After driving around for like 20 minutes, I started to get pissed off. I finally got through to an actual person, rather than a recording, and OF COURSE it was an Indian person that I couldn't understand. What a help that was! I ended up finding it after about 45 minutes of an unnecessary adventure. It ended up being in the center of a little shopping "square." All of the other little stores had signs leading you to their doors, but of course the one place I was searching for only found it necessary to put the sign on the inside of the door.
Aren't drug tests fun?

sweet caffeine

Random tidbit of the day;;
Starbucks is the fastest growing coffee company in the United States right now. I'm sure everyone by now has tried it but if you haven't, I definitely recommend you trying my addiction. Grande mocha frappuccinos are amazing! But would you try it if you knew all of the facts? I recently found that the regular grande mocha and the grande mocha light taste almost identical. So instead of going for a regular, you should contemplate trying the light. Can you taste the difference? If you are ever in the Schaumburg area, Golf Rd has the most delicious coffee I've ever had and take it from someone who drinks frappuccinos daily, I've tried many different Starbucks.

Take a look at the nutritional facts =)

"just close your eyes.."

When I was younger, I was taught that judgment can only be done by Him. So please explain to me why people who claim to be Christians are the worst about judging others they know nothing about? It amazes me how different the north is from the south. In the south, we have the "Bible belt" and people are typically extremely judgmental and are usually close-minded to new ideas. It is frowned upon to be out of the "norm." The north, however, is extremely liberal.

I just recently moved to the north and I must say, what a different experience!

My first week here, my brothers, girlfriend, and I all went into Chicago. I was amazed. The thing that amazed me the most was the fact that you can literally go into a Starbucks and come out only to find another one strategically placed directly across the street. Seriously? I mean I bet it'd be perfect for someone with Alzheimers but honestly why the hell do yankees feel they need duplicates of everything? Is it really a necessity? Then you take a walk through Old Town and you'd be amazed. Not one person looked up from the ground to make eye contact. But my girlfriend introduced us to the coolest little shop I've ever been into. The Spice House was like a chef's dream store. My brother was in Heaven. I thought we'd never leave.

That's all for today =)
